this article was intresting however i can notice a slight difference in an mp3 encoded in 128 kilbytes and 320 kilobytes, their is not much and its hard to tell the difference but the higher bit rate had less of a faint sound/white noise.
As far as I know, most people claim there is an ever-so-slight audible increase in quality when jumping from 128kbps to 160kbps, but anything beyond that is just gravy. 320kbps is a complete waste of disk space in my opinion.
That said, I do down-sample all my MP3 files to 128kbps before I add them to my iPod. The difference is far too small for me to care. I still can’t really confirm that there is an audible difference at all. I’m much more concerned about maximizing the capacity of my oh-so-small 8GB iPod Touch.
